Fund Controller

A leading global investment firm is seeking an experienced Fund Controller to join its European finance team, based in Luxembourg. This role involves overseeing complex, unregulated real estate and private equity structures within one or more investment vehicles. The Fund Controller collaborates with various internal stakeholders across legal, tax, asset management, and accounting functions located in multiple jurisdictions.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Full ownership of accounting and financial reporting for a portfolio of real estate investments, ensuring accuracy and timeliness across multiple accounting standards (Lux GAAP, UK GAAP, US GAAP).
  • Review and manage the work of a team comprising senior and junior finance professionals, providing coaching and technical guidance.
  • Lead the onboarding of new investments and disposals, including legal and tax review, fund flow validation, and preparation of opening balances or completion accounts.
  • Manage capital call processes, subline activities, and fund-level reporting, ensuring alignment with tax structures.
  • Oversee statutory and contractual audits for both standalone and consolidated financial statements, ensuring compliance with regulatory requirements.
  • Act as the primary liaison for external auditors, service providers, and internal teams across different geographies.
  • Lead monthly and quarterly reporting cycles, including review of accounting packs and consolidation processes.
  • Provide technical accounting support to operations teams, identifying process improvements and implementing best practices.
  • Collaborate with IT and other stakeholders to enhance accounting systems and tools, particularly Yardi.
  • Hold board mandates for several entities within the investment structure.

Leadership & Team Oversight:

  • Manage a diverse team of accountants, including hiring, onboarding, training, and performance management.
  • Foster a collaborative and cohesive team environment, encouraging continuous development and cross-functional learning.

Candidate Profile:

  • Fluent in English (written and verbal).
  • 8-10 years of relevant experience, ideally within private equity or real estate-focused firms.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities under tight deadlines.
  • Proven leadership skills and experience managing teams at various career stages.
  • Excellent communication and organizational abilities.
  • Solid understanding of tax principles, including transfer pricing and interest margin calculations.
  • Experience working with external service providers and cross-border teams.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general IT systems.
