About the Opportunity
A leading specialty insurance organization is seeking an experienced Environmental Casualty Underwriter to join its growing underwriting team. This role offers the opportunity to work with complex environmental risks, develop strong broker relationships, and contribute to the profitable growth of a well-established environmental portfolio.
The ideal candidate will have experience underwriting environmental liabilities and casualty exposures for a wide range of industries, including contractors, manufacturers, transportation companies, waste operations, energy firms, and environmental service providers.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite environmental casualty risks, including Pollution Legal Liability, Contractors Pollution Liability, Environmental Package, and related casualty products
- Evaluate submissions and determine appropriate pricing, terms, conditions, and coverage structures
- Manage and grow a profitable book of environmental business while maintaining underwriting discipline
- Analyze risk characteristics, loss history, financials, and operational exposures
- Develop and maintain relationships with retail and wholesale brokers
- Collaborate with claims, legal, actuarial, and risk engineering teams to support underwriting decisions
- Conduct portfolio reviews and monitor account performance
- Stay informed on environmental regulations, emerging risks, and market trends
- Travel periodically to meet with brokers and insureds within assigned territory
Qualifications
- 3+ years of commercial insurance underwriting experience
- Environmental underwriting experience strongly preferred
- Knowledge of environmental liability, pollution, casualty, and specialty insurance products
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills
- Ability to evaluate complex risks and coverage structures
- Proven relationship management and business development capabilities
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- CPCU, ARM, AU, or other industry designations are a plus
