Compliance Officer
We are representing a leading high‑frequency trading firm based in Amsterdam, operating at the intersection of technology, electronic trading, and market structure across global markets. The firm runs highly automated, low‑latency trading strategies and places strong emphasis on market integrity, robust governance, and commercially aligned compliance.
As part of continued growth, they are looking to appoint an experienced Compliance Officer to act as a strategic partner to Trading and Technology.
The Role
This is a highly visible, front‑foot compliance role in a sophisticated algorithmic trading environment. You will work closely with traders, quants, and engineers, providing pragmatic and commercially sound regulatory guidance while ensuring adherence to EU and Dutch regulatory requirements.
The role goes beyond monitoring and rule‑setting. It focuses on embedding compliance into day‑to‑day decision-making, enabling responsible innovation while maintaining the highest standards of market conduct.
Key Responsibilities
Strategic Business Partnering
- Act as a trusted advisor to Trading and Technology teams on regulatory and market conduct matters
- Embed compliance considerations into strategic and operational initiatives
- Provide constructive challenge while balancing regulatory obligations with commercial objectives
- Build strong working relationships across trading desks and technology teams
Regulatory Advisory & Oversight
- Serve as subject matter expert on EU and Dutch regulatory frameworks relevant to algorithmic trading
- Translate complex regulatory and exchange requirements into clear, risk‑based, and practical guidance
- Review new trading strategies, algorithms, and technology developments
- Perform regulatory assessments, including MiFID II, RTS 6, and Market Abuse Regulation (MAR)
- Monitor regulatory developments and enforcement activity, providing forward‑looking regulatory insight to the business
Regulatory Engagement
- Represent the firm in interactions with regulators, exchanges, and relevant industry bodies
- Coordinate and manage responses to regulatory inquiries, examinations, and reviews
- Support regulatory change initiatives and thematic projects
Compliance Framework & Risk Management
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of the firm's compliance framework
- Ensure compliance risks are appropriately identified, escalated, and reported
- Prepare compliance reporting and management updates
- Support surveillance initiatives and assist with investigations where required
- Draft and maintain compliance policies, procedures, and training materials
- Deliver compliance training to Trading, Technology, and broader stakeholders
Experience & Profile
- 5+ years' experience in Compliance within financial markets, ideally in an algorithmic trading, electronic trading, or market infrastructure environment
- Strong working knowledge of regulations impacting algorithmic trading firms (MiFID II, RTS 6, MAR)
- Solid understanding of financial markets, trading strategies, and market structure
- Proven experience partnering closely with Trading and Technology in a business‑aligned compliance role
- Experience dealing with regulators and managing regulatory interactions
- Strong analytical skills, sound judgment, and attention to detail
- Clear and effective communicator, able to engage credibly with senior stakeholders
- Comfortable operating in a fast‑paced, high‑accountability environment
- Proactive, hands‑on, and structured approach with a strong sense of ownership
