US Equities Macro Strategist / Trader
We are partnering with a leading global macro hedge fund to hire an equities-focused strategist/trader to sit directly within a senior PM's pod. This role is centered on expressing macro views through equities, with a primary focus on ETFs, sector exposure, and thematic positioning. This is a trading-oriented seat within a macro team, where the individual will be responsible for translating macro views into equity trades. The focus is not on traditional single-name research, but on clean trade expression, timing, and positioning, typically over a 3-6 month horizon. The PM is macro/rates-driven, and is looking for someone who can bring an equity-first perspective, while helping to implement ideas through indices, ETFs, and baskets, with support from internal fundamental teams as needed.
Key Responsibilities
- Generate and express macro-driven investment ideas through equities, primarily via:
- ETFs
- sector and thematic baskets
- index exposures
- Translate views on rates, growth, policy, and macro regime shifts into actionable equity positioning
- Identify timing and catalyst-driven opportunities (3-6 month horizon)
- Monitor positions, adjust exposures, and update views based on market conditions and positioning changes
- Work directly with the PM on trade construction, sizing, and risk framing
- Leverage internal research for targeted single-name support, without owning traditional coverage
Ideal Candidate Profile
- 5-15 years of experience in:
- Hedge fund (multi-manager or long/short equity platform)
- Trading or strategist roles with a clear equity focus
- Strong experience expressing views through equities, including:
- ETFs / baskets / sector positioning
- index or factor exposure
- Demonstrated ability to think in:
- trades (entry / exit / timing)
- risk/reward and catalysts, not just valuation
- Strong understanding of:
- equity market structure, positioning, and flows
- macro drivers and their impact on equities
