About the Opportunity
A well-established and highly respected property & casualty insurance carrier is seeking an experienced Underwriting Manager to lead a team of underwriting professionals. This individual will play a key role in shaping underwriting strategy, driving operational excellence, enhancing agency relationships, and developing innovative programs that support business growth.
Reporting to senior underwriting leadership, the Underwriting Manager will serve as a technical resource, mentor, and strategic leader responsible for ensuring consistent underwriting practices, strong portfolio performance, and exceptional customer service.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and manage underwriting team workflows, productivity, and service standards.
- Coach, mentor, and develop underwriting staff through training, performance management, and ongoing feedback.
- Conduct quality reviews and audits to ensure adherence to underwriting guidelines and risk appetite.
- Provide expert guidance on complex underwriting accounts, coverage considerations, and risk assessments.
- Analyze portfolio performance, identify trends, and recommend opportunities for growth and profitability.
- Partner with leadership on strategic initiatives, process improvements, and technology-driven enhancements.
- Support agency relationship management efforts to strengthen partnerships and achieve business objectives.
- Ensure compliance with underwriting guidelines, regulatory requirements, and company standards.
- Collaborate cross-functionally to improve operational efficiency and customer experience.
Qualifications
Required
- 6+ years of Property & Casualty underwriting experience.
- 2+ years of leadership, supervisory, or management experience.
- Strong understanding of underwriting operations, policy lifecycle management, and risk evaluation.
- Experience analyzing underwriting data, performance metrics, and portfolio trends.
- Proven ability to lead teams and build strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
- Excellent communication, coaching, and organizational skills.
Preferred
- CPCU, AU, or other industry designation
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, Risk Management, or a related field.
- Experience leading underwriting technology initiatives, system enhancements, or process improvement projects.
- Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite.
