Structured Credit Trading
Role Overview
A leading international financial institution is seeking an experienced Structured Credit Trader to join its London‑based trading platform. The role has a broad, cross‑product mandate, spanning flow financing and highly structured, complex credit trades, and requires a strong blend of risk expertise, commercial judgement, and client‑facing capability.
This position is suited to a non‑siloed individual with experience across structured credit, credit derivatives, and lending, who understands how risk behaves across different market environments and can actively engage with clients. Candidates from structuring or trading backgrounds will be considered, provided they have strong market instincts and a genuine understanding of risk.
Key Responsibilities
Trading & Risk Management
- Trade and manage risk across a broad structured credit and financing remit, including:
- CDS (including complex / 4th‑trigger structures)
- Exotic and bespoke credit derivatives
- Structured credit products
- Lending and financing‑linked transactions
- Actively manage trading‑book risk, including pricing, hedging, scenario analysis, and stress testing.
- Understand and articulate how risk behaves under different market regimes, including correlation, convexity, and liquidity dynamics.
- Contribute to balance‑sheet and capital‑efficient risk usage.
Flow & Complex Trading
- Execute flow financing and liquid credit transactions alongside highly structured, bespoke trades, without reliance on a single product silo.
- Work across vanilla and complex trades, adapting risk management approaches appropriately.
- Identify and monetise relative‑value and structuring opportunities across credit markets.
Client Interaction & Commercial Focus
- Sit directly in front of clients alongside sales, contributing to trade structuring, pricing discussions, and execution strategy.
- Provide clients with market colour, trade ideas, and structuring insight, demonstrating credibility across both flow and complex products.
- Act as a commercially minded trading partner, helping originate and execute client‑driven opportunities.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Work closely with sales, structuring, risk, legal, and operations to deliver executable solutions.
- Support structuring teams on complex trades, helping translate ideas into tradable, risk‑sound transactions.
- Contribute to product development and enhancement initiatives.
Required Experience & Skills
Professional Background
- 7-12+ years of experience in structured credit trading, credit derivatives trading, structured finance, or structuring, within a global markets environment.
- Demonstrated exposure to both flow financing and complex structured credit transactions.
- Experience across CDS, structured credit, exotics, and lending‑linked structures is strongly preferred.
Technical & Risk Skills
- Strong understanding of credit risk, correlation, optionality, and liquidity dynamics.
- Ability to price, manage, and hedge complex structures, not just distribute or model them.
- Deep appreciation of how theoretical risk translates into real P&L and balance‑sheet outcomes.
Commercial & Personal Attributes
- Highly commercial mindset with strong client awareness.
- Comfortable engaging directly with clients and supporting sales discussions.
- Able to operate autonomously while contributing to a collaborative trading culture.
- Calm under pressure, disciplined risk manager, and intellectually curious.
