Senior Reinsurance Accountant
Our client is looking for a Senior Reinsurance Accountant to add to their team. This person will play a key role in managing the financial operations related to assumed and ceded reinsurance activities. This position ensures accurate and timely processing of reinsurance transactions, supports financial reporting, and collaborates with internal and external stakeholders to maintain compliance and operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
- Process and reconcile assumed and ceded reinsurance transactions, including booking journal entries and applying cash.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly bordereaux reports and reinsurance settlements.
- Monitor aged balances, missing accounts, and discrepancies; investigate and resolve issues in collaboration with underwriting, claims, and finance teams.
- Assist in the preparation of statutory filings (e.g., Schedule F) and financial statements.
- Support internal and external audits by providing documentation and explanations.
- Maintain and improve internal controls and accounting procedures related to reinsurance.
- Collaborate with IT and other departments to enhance reporting systems and automation.
- Participate in month-end and quarter-end close processes, including reconciliations and accruals.
- Monitor letters of credit and trust accounts to ensure adequate coverage.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to junior accounting staff as needed.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA preferred).
- Minimum 3-5 years of experience in reinsurance accounting (assumed and/or ceded).
- Strong understanding of GAAP and insurance statutory accounting.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Reinsurance Pro).
- Excellent analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Experience with process improvement and project management is a plus.
