The Opportunity
Our client, a dynamic and growing Managing General Agency, is seeking an experienced Senior E&S Property Underwriter to join its underwriting team. This role offers the opportunity to play a key part in underwriting complex and non-admitted commercial property risks while helping drive profitable growth and strong broker relationships.
The ideal candidate brings deep technical expertise in E&S property underwriting, sound judgment, and a proactive, relationship-driven approach.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite a diversified portfolio of E&S commercial property risks, including complex and non-standard accounts
- Evaluate new and renewal submissions, assessing coverage, pricing, limits, and overall risk quality to ensure profitability
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers, acting as a trusted underwriting partner
- Apply underwriting guidelines with disciplined yet flexible decision-making appropriate for the E&S marketplace
- Negotiate terms, conditions, pricing, and coverage structures with brokers
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including leadership, claims, and operations to support seamless execution
- Mentor and support junior underwriters as needed, contributing to team development
- Stay current on market trends, loss activity, and regulatory considerations impacting E&S property business
- Contribute to underwriting strategy and product development initiatives as the platform grows
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience underwriting E&S or surplus lines commercial property business
- Strong technical knowledge of commercial property coverages, forms, and risk analysis
- Proven ability to operate with a high level of authority and independent judgment
- Established wholesale broker relationships preferred
- Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills
- Results-oriented mindset with a focus on profitable growth
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment
- Professional designations such as CPCU, ARM, or similar are a plus
