Senior Base Metals Analyst (Copper Focus) - Location: China (Shanghai)
We are partnering with a leading global investment platform with a strong emphasis on research, analytics, and data-driven decision making. The organisation is seeking for Senior Base Metals Analyst (Copper Focus) to join its market intelligence and research team.
This role will focus on delivering in-depth analysis of global copper markets, with a strong emphasis on China, supporting commercial, strategic and market-facing decisions across the business. The successful candidate will combine strong fundamental research capabilities with a deep understanding of copper supply chains, market dynamics and industry trends.
Responsibilities
- Conduct fundamental research and analysis across the global copper value chain, with particular focus on China.
- Develop and maintain market models covering supply, demand, trade flows, inventories and pricing dynamics.
- Monitor developments across mining, smelting, refining and downstream consumption sectors.
- Analyse macroeconomic, policy and industrial trends impacting copper markets.
- Produce market reports, forecasts and commentary to support business decision-making.
- Identify emerging market opportunities, risks and structural trends within the copper sector.
- Work closely with commercial, research and market-facing teams to deliver timely market intelligence.
- Leverage data and analytical tools to enhance forecasting and research output.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience researching copper or base metals markets.
- Deep understanding of the Chinese copper market ecosystem, including supply chains, industry participants and demand drivers.
- Strong knowledge of concentrates, refined copper, smelting, mining and downstream consumption sectors.
- Broader base metals experience would be advantageous.
- Strong background in: Fundamental commodity research, S&D analysis, market forecasting. Cost competitiveness analysis
- Advanced Excel proficiency and strong data analytical capabilities.
- Experience using Python, SQL, R or similar analytical tools is beneficial.
- Highly analytical with strong commercial acumen.
- Excellent communication and presentation skills.
- Ability to translate complex market developments into actionable insights.
- Comfortable operating within a dynamic, international environment.
- Passion for commodity markets and market intelligence.
