Risk Control Analyst
A leading global energy trading firm is seeking a Risk Control Analyst to join its Houston-based team. This role sits within the middle office and supports power trading activities across North American markets. Responsibilities:
- Lead risk oversight for power trading portfolios, including open position monitoring, valuation controls, and mark-to-market (MTM) assessments
- Deliver daily analysis of key metrics such as P&L, VaR, and exposure across trading books
- Validate deals and pricing within the trading system, ensuring data integrity and compliance with internal risk policies
- Support reporting to senior management, including trading results and position summaries
- Collaborate with traders to identify and explain portfolio risk drivers
- Maintain and enhance risk models, test new calculations, and propose improvements to valuation accuracy
- Evaluate forward price movements and assess model assumptions against market fundamental
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, mathematics, or a related quantitative discipline
- Strong understanding of risk management methodologies, MTM, VaR, and exposure metrics
- Experience in North American power markets, particularly ERCOT, PJM, and CAISO
- Familiarity with power pricing structures and external price validation
- Proficiency in tools such as Power BI, Python, or Alteryx
- Detail-oriented with the ability to work under tight deadlines
- Flexible with working hours to support trading operations
