Power Originator (PJM/ERCOT)

Overview
We are seeking a highly motivated Power Originator to join a growing commodities and energy trading team in New York City. This individual will be responsible for identifying, structuring, and executing power transactions across North American markets, with a primary focus on PJM and/or ERCOT. The role partners closely with trading, analytics, and risk management teams to develop commercial opportunities, expand market presence, and drive profitability through physical and financial power transactions.
Key Responsibilities
- Originate and develop new business opportunities within PJM and/or ERCOT power markets.
- Build and maintain relationships with utilities, load-serving entities, municipal customers, cooperatives, retail energy providers, generators, data centers, and large commercial & industrial customers.
- Structure and negotiate physical and financial power agreements, including bilateral power transactions, virtuals, load-serving agreements, and congestion-related products.
- Collaborate with traders and market analysts to identify market dislocations, basis opportunities, congestion trends, and customer solutions.
- Develop and execute marketing strategies to expand the company's footprint across key power markets.
- Lead commercial negotiations and manage transaction execution from origination through contract completion.
- Monitor market fundamentals, regulatory developments, transmission activity, and emerging opportunities impacting PJM and ERCOT.
- Partner with legal, risk, and credit teams to negotiate and finalize master agreements and transaction documentation.
- Maintain a strong pipeline of opportunities and provide regular updates on business development activities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Business, Mathematics, or a related field.
- 5+ years of experience in power origination, power marketing, energy trading, or structured energy transactions.
- Strong understanding of PJM and/or ERCOT market structure, transmission, congestion, capacity markets, and power fundamentals.
- Existing network of industry relationships across generators, utilities, retail providers, cooperatives, municipalities, or large energy consumers.
- Experience negotiating and executing energy commodity agreements and structured transactions.
- Strong commercial acumen and the ability to identify, evaluate, and monetize market opportunities.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship management skills.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial trading environment
