Long Short Equity Analyst - Energy & Chemical

Our client is seeking a highly motivated Long/Short Equity Analyst to join our Shanghai-based investment team, with a primary focus on the Energy and Chemical sectors. The ideal candidate will bring strong industry knowledge, demonstrated analytical capability, and a passion for fundamental research within a fast‑paced, high-performance hedge fund environment.

Key Responsibilities

1. Fundamental Research & Idea Generation

  • Conduct in-depth research on companies across the energy, petrochemical, new energy, and materials value chains.
  • Build and maintain detailed financial models (3-statement, segment, sensitivity).
  • Track industry trends, supply-demand dynamics, regulatory developments, and commodity cycles.
  • Identify long and short investment opportunities with clear catalysts and risk/reward profiles.

2. Portfolio Support & Trade Execution

  • Present investment theses, valuation frameworks, and scenario analyses to the Portfolio Manager.
  • Provide real-time updates on earnings, industry events, channel checks, and market movements.
  • Support portfolio construction through risk assessment, position sizing considerations, and hedging insights.

3. Cross‑Sector Collaboration

  • Collaborate with analysts across adjacent sectors (e.g., utilities, industrials, EV supply chain, new energy materials).
  • Share insights to support firmwide research and cross‑sector thematic work.

4. Risk Management

  • Monitor live positions and track key risks, catalysts, and valuation inflections.
  • Maintain discipline in downside protection, thesis validation, and stop‑loss frameworks.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor's degree or above in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related fields.
  • 5-10 years of equity research or buyside experience within energy, chemicals, materials, or industrials.
  • Strong financial modeling and valuation skills (DCF, multiples, bottom‑up).
  • Native/Fluent Mandarin; strong English reading and writing ability.

Preferred

  • Experience in a long/short hedge fund or high‑performance research team.
  • Solid understanding of global energy markets, refining and petrochemicals, new materials, or energy transition supply chains.
  • Ability to independently generate high-conviction ideas with clear catalysts.
