Selby Jennings have partnered with a leading Lloyd's market insurer to secure a Lead Actuary - Property into a key role within their growing pricing function.
This is a senior position focused on commercial property classes, combining technical pricing leadership, portfolio optimisation, and underwriting partnership. The role offers significant visibility across the business, working closely with underwriting, exposure management, capital, and reserving teams to influence portfolio performance and strategic decision-making.
Rather than being limited to individual deal pricing, this opportunity involves shaping pricing methodology, supporting capital allocation decisions, driving portfolio optimisation initiatives, and acting as a trusted advisor to underwriting leadership. For the right individual, this role provides a platform to develop both technical and people leadership responsibilities within a highly collaborative environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead the design and development of pricing models and methodologies across commercial property classes
- Partner closely with underwriters to develop pricing strategies and support business planning
- Monitor portfolio performance, pricing adequacy, and risk-adjusted returns
- Contribute to portfolio optimisation and capital allocation initiatives
- Work alongside exposure management teams to monitor aggregations and portfolio risk
- Develop pricing tools, templates, and analytical frameworks for underwriting teams
- Provide pricing insight across modelled and non-modelled perils
- Support internal model validation and capital model assumptions
- Present analysis and recommendations to senior stakeholders and governance committees
- Conduct case pricing reviews across property and wider business lines where required
- Mentor and support junior members of the pricing team
Role Requirements:
- Qualified actuary (FIA or equivalent)
- Strong London Market pricing experience within commercial property classes
- Experience developing and implementing pricing models and underwriting tools
- Strong understanding of portfolio management, capital allocation, and pricing performance metrics
- Experience working closely with underwriting teams in a business-facing capacity
- Programming experience in Python, R, or SQL advantageous
- Experience with HX beneficial
- Prior people management or mentoring experience preferred
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to influence both technical and non-technical stakeholders
