Overview
A confidential, well-established European energy trading group is seeking to hire one to two experienced Gas Traders to strengthen its proprietary gas trading desk in Zug, Switzerland. The role sits within a highly experienced and collaborative gas trading team, operating across major European gas markets with strong physical and financial capabilities.
This position offers the opportunity to trade alongside senior traders and analysts, with clearly defined risk and VaR limits, and direct exposure to core European gas hubs and asset-backed portfolios.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute proprietary gas trading strategies across European markets, focusing primarily on physical and financial gas products
- Manage and optimise trading positions within defined risk, P&L, and VaR limits
- Actively trade spreads, structures, and optionality linked to gas assets and market flows
- Work closely with senior traders, analysts, and portfolio managers to identify and monetise market opportunities
- Support the ongoing development of gas trading activities in key European markets
- Contribute to market analysis, fundamentals, and short- to medium-term trading strategies
Team & Environment
- Join an established gas desk led by a highly experienced Gas Trading Manager (10+ years' experience)
- Work alongside senior and junior/mid-level traders in a collaborative, high-performance environment
- Be seated directly next to traders and analysts, ensuring fast decision-making and information flow
- Power trading is covered by a separate dedicated team, allowing full focus on gas markets
Key Requirements
- 5-7+ years of experience in gas trading (proprietary or asset-backed)
- Background in a commodity trading house, utility, or energy major
- Proven track record in proprietary gas trading
- Strong understanding of European gas markets, hubs, and cross-border flows
- Experience with German and/or French gas markets strongly preferred (assets nominated and operated in these regions)
- Italian gas market knowledge is a strong plus
- Strong risk awareness and disciplined trading approach

- English required
- German or French highly preferred
Location & Relocation
- Role is full-time on-site in Zug, Switzerland
- Candidates currently based in Geneva are welcome
- Open to international relocation for the right profile
