We are representing a leading $15bn+ global multi-strategy hedge fund in the search for an experienced Energy Equity Long/Short Portfolio Manager to establish and lead a dedicated investment strategy focused primarily on the Oil & Gas equity universe.

This is a rare opportunity for an established investor to step into a true build-out mandate within a platform that already possesses significant scale, resources, and expertise across both commodities investing and equity investing. The firm has long-standing franchises in each area and is now seeking a Portfolio Manager capable of creating a bridge between the two disciplines, leveraging the information advantages, market intelligence, and research flows that exist across the broader energy ecosystem.

The Opportunity

The successful candidate will be tasked with launching and managing a standalone Energy Equity Long/Short strategy, with a particular emphasis on upstream, midstream, services, refining, and broader Oil & Gas-related equities. The firm's view is that insights generated by its commodities and physical energy specialists can create differentiated opportunities within equities, while equity research can simultaneously enhance the broader energy investment framework across commodities.

This role offers the chance to build a highly differentiated investment business supported by an institutional platform, while avoiding many of the structural constraints commonly found at traditional pod-based organizations.

Key Responsibilities

• Generate alpha through fundamental long and short investing across the US Energy and Oil & Gas equity complex.
• Develop differentiated investment views by integrating commodity market intelligence with company-specific research.
• Build and manage a concentrated portfolio of high-conviction investments.
• Maintain rigorous fundamental analysis across supply-demand dynamics, commodity pricing, capital allocation trends, and sector-specific catalysts.
• Work closely with commodities teams to identify cross-asset opportunities and emerging themes.
• Utilize internal primary research resources to develop proprietary insights and variant views.
• Construct and manage portfolio risk in line with agreed parameters.
• Contribute to the continued expansion of the firm's broader natural resources and energy investing capabilities.

Candidate Profile

• Proven track record managing a successful Energy Equity Long/Short portfolio.
• Deep expertise across the Oil & Gas sector, including significant experience covering upstream, exploration & production, oilfield services, midstream, refining, or integrated energy companies.
• Demonstrated ability to generate differentiated long and short investment ideas through fundamental research.
• Strong understanding of commodity markets and their impact on equity valuation and positioning.
• Experience operating within hedge funds, asset managers, proprietary trading firms, or similar institutional investment environments.
• Entrepreneurial mindset with the desire to build and scale a franchise within a larger platform.
• Ability to thrive in a collaborative but performance-driven environment.
