Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and results-driven D1 Proprietary Trader to join our Hong Kong trading desk within a leading Chinese securities firm. The role focuses on deploying firm capital to capture intraday and short-term (D1) trading opportunities, with a strong emphasis on Hong Kong and Greater China-related markets.
The ideal candidate will have a proven trading track record, deep understanding of China-linked market dynamics, and the ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced, performance-oriented environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute discretionary or systematic D1 trading strategies across approved asset classes (equities, futures, indices, FX, or derivatives)
- Generate profits through active intraday and short-term positioning using firm capital
- Focus on Hong Kong-listed and China-related instruments (e.g., H-shares, A/H arbitrage, China ADRs, Stock Connect flows)
- Monitor market-moving events including China macroeconomic developments, policy signals, and capital flows
- Maintain strict adherence to internal risk limits, stop-loss rules, and drawdown thresholds
- Continuously refine trading strategies based on market conditions and performance analysis
- Work closely with risk management, compliance, and technology teams
- Ensure full compliance with SFC regulations and internal governance standards
Requirements
- Proven profitability as a proprietary trader, ideally within a securities firm or proprietary trading environment
- Strong understanding of Hong Kong and Mainland China market structure, including Stock Connect mechanisms
- Demonstrated expertise in short-term / intraday trading strategies (D1 horizon)
- Solid risk management discipline and consistent trading methodology
- Ability to react quickly to breaking news and volatile market conditions
- Fluent in Mandarin and English (required for internal communication and market coverage)
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Mathematics, or related discipline (preferred)
- SFC Type 1 license (or eligibility to obtain) required
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience trading China-focused or Asia-Pacific markets within a Chinese financial institution
- Familiarity with policy-driven trading themes (e.g., PBOC signals, regulatory changes, sector directives)
- Quantitative or systematic trading exposure is a plus
- Programming skills (Python or similar) for analytics or strategy development
- Strong network and understanding of Mainland investor sentiment and flow dynamics
