About the Role
The Lead Data Scientist will set the vision and direction for the DSL, driving the development and deployment of AI/ML solutions that enhance underwriting, claims processing, customer experience, and risk management. This individual will lead a team of data scientists, collaborate with senior executives, and work cross-functionally to translate complex business challenges into scalable, data-driven solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the DSL's strategic roadmap, ensuring alignment with enterprise goals and digital transformation initiatives.
- Manage and mentor a high-performing team of data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and continuous learning.
- Identify and evaluate emerging AI/ML technologies, including deep learning, LLMs, and generative AI.
- Design and implement AI solutions using unstructured data sources such as contracts, medical records, and customer interactions.
- Establish best practices for responsible AI development, model governance, and lifecycle management.
- Collaborate with business, product, and engineering teams to deliver high-impact, production-ready solutions.
- Represent the data science function in executive meetings, vendor discussions, and industry forums.
Qualifications
- Advanced degree (PhD/MS/BS) in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field with 6-10+ years of experience.
- Deep expertise in machine learning, NLP, and deep learning frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow).
- Experience with LLMs, generative AI, and GPU-accelerated computing.
- Proven track record of leading data science teams and delivering enterprise-scale AI solutions.
- Strong programming skills in Python and familiarity with distributed computing environments.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
