Position Overview​
We are looking for an experienced Cross-Border Commodity Arbitrage Trader to identify, analyze, and execute arbitrage opportunities across international commodity markets. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of global commodity markets, strong analytical skills, and a proven track record of successful trading. This role requires the ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic environment and collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams.​
Key Responsibilities​
Market Analysis: Conduct in-depth research and analysis of global commodity markets, including energy, metals, agricultural products, and soft commodities. Monitor market trends, supply and demand dynamics, geopolitical factors, and regulatory changes to identify potential arbitrage opportunities. Stay updated on macroeconomic indicators and their impact on commodity prices.​
Opportunity Identification: Util quantitative models, statistical analysis, and fundamental research to identify mispricings and inefficiencies in cross-border commodity markets. Develop and implement trading strategies to exploit these opportunities, taking into account factors such as transportation costs, storage costs, currency fluctuations, and regulatory constraints.​
Trade Execution: Execute arbitrage trades in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring compliance with internal risk management policies and regulatory requirements. Work closely with brokers, counterparties, and internal operations teams to manage trade settlements, margin requirements, and risk exposures. Monitor and adjust trading positions as market conditions change to optimize profitability and manage risk.​
Risk Management: Develop and implement risk management strategies to mitigate exposure to market, credit, and operational risks. Monitor and analyze risk metrics, such as value-at-risk (VaR), stress tests, and position limits, to ensure that trading activities are within acceptable risk parameters. Collaborate with the risk management team to develop and implement risk mitigation measures as needed.​
Portfolio Management: Manage a portfolio of cross-border commodity arbitrage trades, with the goal of generating consistent returns while managing risk. Develop and implement portfolio construction and diversification strategies to optimize risk-return profiles. Monitor and analyze portfolio performance, and make adjustments to trading strategies and positions as needed to achieve investment objectives.​
Research and Development: Stay abreast of the latest developments in financial markets, trading technologies, and quantitative techniques. Conduct research and development activities to enhance trading strategies, risk management models, and analytical tools. Collaborate with internal research teams and external partners to develop and implement innovative solutions.​
Team Collaboration: Work closely with other traders, analysts, researchers, and risk managers within the firm to share information, insights, and ideas. Collaborate on cross-functional projects and initiatives to drive business growth and improve operational efficiency. Participate in team meetings, discussions, and training sessions to stay updated on firm-wide activities and developments.​
Client Interaction: Interact with clients, investors, and other stakeholders as needed to provide market insights, investment recommendations, and performance updates. Build and maintain strong relationships with clients and investors to support business development and retention efforts.​
Qualifications and Skills​
Experience: Minimum of 5 years of relevant experience in cross-border commodity trading, arbitrage, or a related field. Proven track record of successful trading and generating consistent returns in global commodity markets. Experience working in an international hedge fund, investment bank, or commodity trading firm is preferred.​
Education: Bachelor's degree in finance, economics, business, mathematics, statistics, or a related field. A master's degree in business administration (MBA), finance (MSF), or a related field is preferred.​
Knowledge and Skills: In-depth knowledge of global commodity markets, including market structure, trading mechanisms, and pricing dynamics. Strong analytical skills, with the ability to analyze complex data, develop quantitative models, and make informed trading decisions. Proficiency in financial analysis, risk management, and portfolio management techniques. Excellent communication and presentation skills, with the ability to effectively communicate complex market information and trading strategies to internal and external stakeholders. Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment and build strong relationships with colleagues, clients, and counterparties. Proficiency in using financial analysis software, trading platforms, and data visualization tools. Fluency in English is required; proficiency in other languages, especially Mandarin, Spanish, or Arabic, is a plus.​
