Artificial Intelligence Consultant
Overview
We are seeking an experienced AI Consultant to join our New York-based hedge fund on an initial 6‑month engagement (possible renewals) . This role is suited to a hands‑on, generalist technologist with practical experience applying modern AI tools to real business problems. The consultant will partner closely with teams across the firm to design, build, and deliver AI‑driven solutions, helping accelerate internal AI initiatives from concept through execution.
This is not a training‑only or advisory role. The successful candidate will roll up their sleeves, embed with teams, and actively contribute to building production‑ready AI solutions.
Key Responsibilities
- Partner with investment, operations, technology, and business teams to identify and deliver high‑impact AI use cases
- Design and implement AI‑enabled workflows, prototypes, and tools using modern AI and automation platforms
- Rapidly prototype and iterate on solutions, moving from proof‑of‑concept to deployed solutions
- Integrate AI tools into existing systems, processes, and data environments
- Translate business problems into technical solutions, acting as a bridge between technical and non‑technical stakeholders
- Provide pragmatic guidance on best practices around AI usage, model selection, and tooling
- Contribute to establishing internal AI standards, patterns, and reusable components
Required Experience & Skills
- Strong background as a generalist technologist (software engineering, data engineering, or platform engineering)
- Solid programming experience (e.g. Python, JavaScript/TypeScript, or similar)
- Experience rapidly building and shipping prototypes in fast‑moving environments
- Strong problem‑solving skills and comfort working with ambiguous requirements
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to work directly with senior stakeholders
Hands‑on experience working with modern AI tools, such as:
- Large Language Models (e.g. OpenAI, Anthropic, open‑source LLMs)
- AI APIs, agent frameworks, or orchestration tools
- Prompt engineering and applied AI workflows
Nice to Have
- Experience in financial services, hedge funds, or asset management
- Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, GCP, Azure)
- Experience with data pipelines, internal tooling, or workflow automation
- Exposure to MLOps, model deployment, or governance frameworks (practical, not academic)
What We're Looking For
- A builder, not a theorist
- Someone who enjoys partnering closely with teams to deliver tangible outcomes
- Comfortable operating as an embedded consultant in a high‑performance, fast‑paced environment
- Pragmatic, execution‑focused, and commercially minded
