A well-capitalized and relationship-driven community bank is seeking a Senior Credit Officer to play a key role in overseeing credit quality and supporting the growth of its commercial banking and commercial real estate lending platform.
This individual will serve as a trusted partner to lenders and executive leadership, helping balance growth objectives with prudent risk management. The successful candidate will have significant experience underwriting and approving CRE and commercial lending transactions while mentoring junior credit professionals.
Responsibilities
- Lead underwriting and approval of complex commercial real estate and commercial banking transactions.
- Evaluate credit structure, collateral, guarantor support, cash flow sustainability, and overall risk profiles.
- Prepare and review credit presentations for executive leadership and loan committees.
- Provide guidance to lenders regarding transaction structure, risk mitigation, and portfolio management.
- Oversee ongoing credit monitoring, risk rating accuracy, annual reviews, and covenant compliance.
- Collaborate with relationship managers to support business development efforts while maintaining credit discipline.
- Mentor and develop analysts, underwriters, and junior credit officers.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory expectations, internal policies, and sound credit practices.
- Participate in credit committee discussions and strategic planning initiatives related to portfolio growth and asset quality.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Business, Economics, or related field.
- 7-10 years of commercial credit, commercial real estate underwriting, or credit risk management experience.
- Strong knowledge of CRE lending, including multifamily, office, industrial, retail, and mixed-use properties.
- Experience presenting transactions to senior management or credit committees.
- Proven ability to assess complex borrower and guarantor relationships.
- Strong leadership, communication, and relationship management skills.
- Formal credit training and/or advanced banking education is preferred.
