A leading life insurance and reinsurance organization is seeking a Senior Accountant to take ownership of accounting, reporting, and analysis for key blocks of business. This role offers broad visibility across the enterprise and the opportunity to contribute to a fast‑paced, growing environment with complex reinsurance structures and evolving reporting needs.
Requirements
- Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close activities for assigned blocks of business, ensuring complete and accurate US GAAP and statutory accounting.
- Serve as the subject matter expert for assigned areas, maintaining accurate financial records and overseeing journal entries and account activity.
- Prepare and support external financial reporting across US GAAP, statutory, and other applicable reporting bases.
- Own onboarding and implementation of new reinsurance transactions, including settlement statements and all related accounting entries.
- Analyze earnings results and financial variances; prepare clear and insightful commentary for senior leadership.
- Maintain strong internal controls, including execution and documentation of SOX controls, and proactively identify emerging risks or control enhancements.
- Collaborate with internal and external stakeholders to resolve issues, support audits, and contribute to strategic initiatives.
- Drive process improvements that streamline reporting, increase efficiency, and strengthen controls.
- Support ad-hoc analyses and cross-functional projects with minimal supervision.
- Provide informal coaching and preliminary review support for junior team members, helping to transition work as they develop proficiency.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in Accounting required; CPA required.
- 4-7+ years of accounting or finance experience, ideally in financial services or public accounting.
- Strong technical understanding of insurance and reinsurance accounting concepts.
- Hands-on experience with financial reporting, audit, and preparation/analysis of financial statements.
- Experience onboarding reinsurance or other complex technical transactions is a plus.
- Proven ability to work with large data sets and synthesize findings into meaningful insights.
- High level of initiative, ownership, and the ability to perform in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
- Strong critical thinking, problem‑solving, and organizational skills with exceptional attention to detail.
- Demonstrated leadership attributes and the ability to mentor junior staff.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficiency with Excel and familiarity with general ledger/ERP systems (e.g., PeopleSoft, Oracle) preferred.
