Product Risk Analyst
A diversified natural resources company is looking to add a Product Risk Analyst to their team. The risk department is an independent function responsible for overseeing front‑line trading activities. It ensures that senior management has a clear understanding of the risk‑reward profile of the trading books and that the organization's physical exposures-such as oil cargoes, electricity generation, and gas deliveries-are accurately valued.
This position requires leading the product‑risk coverage of a physical oil or gas trading book. The role includes a broad range of responsibilities, such as producing and explaining daily P&L and exposure reports, valuing cargoes, performing daily pricing, and managing the hedging of complex physical transactions.
Key Responsibilities:
- Calculate and produce daily risk reports, including desk P&L and exposures. This includes providing a full explanation of P&L drivers arising from market‑price changes and the physical movement of commodities.
- Ensure accuracy in the book of records, including cargo valuation, daily pricing, and the hedging of financial exposures in a highly volatile market environment. This may involve troubleshooting systems when necessary.
- Communicate results clearly and effectively with traders, operators, and senior risk management.
- Proactively identify and escalate issues to ensure reports and measurements accurately reflect the business's position.
- Perform additional ad hoc duties as required.
Education and Experience Requirements:
- 0-5 years of experience in market risk, product control, or similar functions.
- Experience in commodities-particularly oil and/or gas-is beneficial but not essential.
- Minimum of a bachelor's degree.
- Coding skills in VBA or Python are an advantage.
- Strong numerical, analytical, and problem‑solving abilities.
- Ability to work autonomously and deliver practical, business‑focused analysis under tight deadlines.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to understand diverse perspectives and explain complex concepts to various stakeholders, including senior management.
- Strong teamwork skills and flexibility to handle a wide range of issues.
