Junior Trader - Power or Gas
This role is designed to develop into a Junior Trader within the New York Energy desk, with a specific focus on power or gas markets.
You will support the desk's daily trading operations by maintaining risk and pricing sheets, working within trading systems such as Openlink, and assisting across a wide range of market activities. The role also includes project work involving SQL, databases, Excel VBA, and Python-ranging from analytical and quantitative tasks to more technical development projects.
All responsibilities should be carried out in a manner that reflects the company's values and expected professional behaviors.
Key Responsibilities & Accountabilities
Regulatory & Conduct
- Adhere to the Conduct Rules as outlined in the Senior Manager & Certification Regime (SMCR).
- Maintain compliance with all regulatory requirements relevant to trading duties.
Trading & Risk Management
- Collaborate with senior traders in the daily trading process, including trade input, position management, and improving efficiency of tools and workflows.
- Assist with day‑to‑day trading risks across OTC and exchange‑traded power or gas products.
- Support execution of client trades and manage associated hedge positions, including futures, swaps, and options.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of pricing systems, risk models, and trading infrastructure.
- Update market prices within trading systems throughout the day and at market close.
- Follow all company policies and procedures, including Trading Policies, Risk Policies, and the Code of Conduct.
Market Knowledge
- Build a strong understanding of power and gas markets, including market fundamentals and inherent trading risks.
