Fundamental Equity Analyst - Options Market Making
Fundamental Equity Analyst - Options Market Making (Central Research)
Location: New York City
Compensation: Competitive base + performance bonus
Representing: A global, top-tier market making firm and one of the highest-volume liquidity providers across listed markets.
The Opportunity
We are partnering with a premier global market maker to hire a Fundamental Analyst into a centralized research function embedded within the trading organization, supporting an established options market making / volatility trading group.
This is a differentiated seat at the intersection of deep fundamental equity research and semi-systematic options trading. Your work will directly inform how traders size conviction, frame catalysts, and express views through options-helping enhance signal quality, risk selection, and event positioning within a fast-paced, highly technical trading environment.
What You'll Do
- Produce high-conviction fundamental research on single-name equities with a clear emphasis on catalysts, earnings, and event-driven inflections that matter for volatility and options pricing.
- Build and maintain investment theses that translate into tradeable volatility frameworks (directional vs. vol, skew, term structure, event premia).
- Partner daily with options traders/strategists to overlay fundamental insights onto semi-systematic trading strategies-improving conviction, scenario definition, and risk/reward mapping.
- Develop a repeatable workflow for identifying and monitoring corporate events, idiosyncratic drivers, and thematic factors that can impact implied/realized volatility and positioning.
- Synthesize inputs quickly (newsflow, filings, earnings, industry checks) into actionable, trader-ready outputs: previews, recaps, scenario trees, and "what matters" notes.
- Contribute to a collaborative research platform-helping standardize models, dashboards, watchlists, and post-mortems for continuous learning.
The Profile
We're looking for a research athlete who can convert fundamentals into tradeable conviction. Ideal candidates often come from: sell-side equity research, buyside fundamental seats, event-driven/volatility pods, or adjacent trading-support research roles.
Required / strongly preferred:
- 2-6 years of experience in fundamental equity research (ideally with exposure to options markets).
- Demonstrated ability to form a view and communicate it crisply-especially around catalysts and scenarios.
- Strong accounting/financial statement fluency; comfort building/owning models and key drivers.
- Intellectual curiosity + speed: ability to handle multiple names/events in parallel in a live trading environment.
- Clear communication style suited to traders: concise, decisive, probability-weighted thinking.
Nice to have:
- Exposure to options/volatility (even if informal): understanding implied vol, skew, event vol, positioning.
- Experience in event-driven investing or earnings/catalyst-centric coverage.
- Comfort working with data tools (Excel/VBA, Python, SQL, BI tools) to streamline workflows.
Why This Role Stands Out
- Front-office seat inside the trading team with direct impact on P&L decision-making.
- A true hybrid of fundamental research + volatility expression-rarely offered in a pure market making platform.
- Centralized mandate supporting a sophisticated options group-broad exposure, steep learning curve, high standards.
- Base + bonus structure aligned with contribution and outcomes.
