E&S Actuary

We're partnering with a client that's launching a new division within a well-established insurance company. This team is focused on building innovative solutions in the Environmental, Energy, and Excess Casualty space-leveraging deep industry expertise while operating with the speed and creativity of a startup.

This is a rare opportunity to join a ground-floor initiative with the backing of a financially strong and reputable insurer.

🔍 About the Role

Our client is seeking a highly technical ACAS or FCAS Actuary with strong experience in both pricing and reserving. This is a hands-on, model-building role ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-moving, collaborative environment and wants to help shape the actuarial foundation of a new business unit.

This is not a traditional actuarial role-you'll be working closely with underwriting, claims, and analytics teams to build tools, challenge assumptions, and drive strategy.

🛠️ Key Responsibilities

  • Build and refine pricing models for Environmental, Energy, and/or Excess lines using advanced actuarial and statistical techniques.
  • Lead reserving analyses and support quarterly financial reporting.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to integrate actuarial insights into underwriting and portfolio management.
  • Develop tools and frameworks for rate monitoring, segmentation, and performance analysis.
  • Contribute to product design and innovation from an actuarial perspective.

âś… Ideal Candidate Profile

  • Designation: ACAS or FCAS required.
  • Experience: 5+ years in P&C actuarial roles; experience in Environmental, Energy, or Excess lines preferred.
  • Technical Skills: Strong programming background (Python, R, SQL, etc.); familiarity with GLMs, predictive modeling, or machine learning is a plus.
  • Mindset: Entrepreneurial, analytical, and comfortable working in a startup-style environment.
  • Communication: Able to clearly communicate technical findings to both actuarial and non-actuarial stakeholders.

🌟 Why This Role?

  • Impact: Be a foundational member of a new actuarial team with direct influence on strategy and execution.
  • Innovation: Work on complex, underserved lines of business with room for creativity and experimentation.
  • Culture: Startup energy with the support and stability of a legacy insurer.
  • Growth: Significant career upside and exposure to leadership.
