Location: Chicago, IL Hybrid
Salary: $200,000-$250,000 base plus annual discretionary bonus
A global trading firm is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead its Developer Experience team. This role blends technical leadership, strategic planning, and service ownership to enhance developer productivity across the organization.
Key Responsibilities:
* Lead and mentor a distributed engineering team across the US and UK.
* Own and improve internal tools for source control, CI/CD, artifact storage, and developer workflows.
* Collaborate with engineering and trading teams to drive efficiency and reliability.
* Manage relationships with internal stakeholders to align priorities and gather feedback.
* Resolve complex system issues and manage hybrid infrastructure using infrastructure-as-code.
* Evaluate and integrate third-party tools to enhance the developer toolchain.
* Improve and maintain high-quality documentation and self-service resources.
* Collect and analyze performance metrics to guide improvements.
* Educate users through demos, training, and support.
* Champion the shift toward Site Reliability Engineering (SRE) practices.
Ideal Candidate:
* Proven leadership in managing distributed teams.
* Strong communication and stakeholder management skills.
* Deep technical expertise in Linux systems, CI/CD pipelines, containerization (Kubernetes, Docker), and configuration management (e.g., Ansible).
* Proficient in a high-level language (Go, Python, or Java).
* Experience with third-party developer tools and vendor integration's.
* Passionate about developer productivity and continuous improvement.
Bonus Points:
* Experience building internal tools from concept to production.
* Ability to lead through influence and foster collaboration.
This role must sit out of the firms Chicago office working in a hybrid model of 3 days on site per week.
