Position Overview
The Underwriting Assistant will provide critical support to the underwriting team, ensuring timely processing of submissions, documentation, and communication with agents and internal stakeholders. You will play a key role in maintaining underwriting workflows, preparing rating information, and helping underwriters execute on new and renewal business strategies.
This role is ideal for someone who is detail‑oriented, proactive, and eager to advance within the underwriting function.
Key Responsibilities
- Assist underwriters with managing new business and renewal submissions.
- Review applications, endorsements, and policy documents for accuracy and completeness.
- Prepare files for underwriting review, including rating, loss runs, and supplemental documentation.
- Enter and update account information within internal systems.
- Communicate with brokers, agents, and internal teams regarding outstanding items and documentation needs.
- Generate quotes, binders, and policy issuance materials as directed.
- Maintain organized digital files and support compliance with underwriting guidelines.
- Provide general administrative and operational support to the underwriting team.
Qualifications
- 1-3+ years of experience in P&C insurance (Underwriting Assistant, Account Assistant, CSR, or similar) preferred.
- Experience with commercial lines is a strong plus.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to prioritize work in a fast‑paced environment.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office; experience with carrier or agency management systems a plus.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Desire to learn underwriting and grow within the organization.
