Surety Underwriter
A highly respected and established specialty property & casualty insurer is seeking an experienced Contract Surety Underwriter to join its growing Oklahoma City team. This is an excellent opportunity to join a financially strong organization known for its underwriting expertise, strong agency relationships, and long-term commitment to the surety marketplace.
Responsibilities:
- Underwrite and manage a profitable portfolio of contract surety accounts.
- Analyze contractor financial statements, work programs, backlog reports, and organizational structures.
- Evaluate bond submissions and determine bonding capacity, terms, conditions, and authority levels.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with agency and broker partners.
- Conduct contractor and agency visits to support business development efforts.
- Collaborate with regional leadership to achieve growth objectives while maintaining underwriting profitability.
- Monitor portfolio performance and identify opportunities for profitable expansion.
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of surety underwriting experience required.
- Contract Surety experience strongly preferred, though Commercial Surety professionals with strong financial analysis and relationship management experience will also be considered.
- Strong understanding of financial statement analysis, credit evaluation, and risk assessment.
- Experience managing broker and agency relationships.
- Ability to independently evaluate risks and make underwriting decisions.
- Excellent communication, negotiation, and relationship-building skills.
- Bachelor's degree preferred.
