About the Opportunity
A leading specialty insurance organization is seeking an experienced Specialty E&S Construction Underwriter to join its growing underwriting team. This role offers the opportunity to underwrite complex construction risks, build a profitable portfolio, and develop strong relationships with wholesale brokers across the country.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong understanding of construction-related exposures, E&S market dynamics, and the ability to evaluate and price challenging risks that fall outside the standard marketplace.
Key Responsibilities
- Underwrite new and renewal E&S construction accounts across a wide range of classes and exposures
- Analyze submissions, loss history, financial statements, operations, and project-specific risk characteristics
- Determine appropriate pricing, coverage structures, terms, conditions, and retentions
- Manage a profitable book of business while achieving growth objectives
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with wholesale brokers and key distribution partners
- Negotiate pricing and coverage based on risk quality, market conditions, and underwriting strategy
- Collaborate with claims, actuarial, risk engineering, and product teams to support underwriting decisions
- Monitor portfolio performance, rate adequacy, and loss trends
- Identify new business opportunities within targeted construction segments
- Stay informed on market conditions, legal developments, and emerging construction exposures
Qualifications
- 3+ years of commercial P&C underwriting experience
- Experience underwriting Construction, E&S, or Specialty Casualty business preferred
- Strong understanding of construction operations and risk exposures
- Ability to evaluate complex risks and make sound underwriting decisions
- Experience working with wholesale brokers and E&S distribution channels
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and relationship management skills
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- CPCU, AU, CRIS, or other relevant designations are a plus
