SMID-Cap Biotech Analyst
A leading life sciences-focused investment platform is seeking an exceptional Analyst or Associate to join its team, with a primary focus on SMID‑cap biotechnology companies developing innovative therapeutics. The ideal candidate will bring buy‑side experience and a strong scientific and analytical foundation, enabling them to evaluate both clinical‑stage and commercial‑stage biotech opportunities with depth and independent judgment.
Responsibilities
- Conduct deep fundamental research on SMID‑cap biotech companies developing therapeutics across targeted indications, including cell and gene therapy, oncology, rare diseases, and other emerging treatment modalities.
- Evaluate companies across both clinical (trial design, endpoints, mechanisms of action, regulatory strategy) and commercial (market opportunity, pricing, adoption dynamics, competitive landscape) dimensions.
- Build and maintain detailed financial models, including revenue forecasts, scenario analyses, and probability‑adjusted valuations.
- Track key clinical, regulatory, and commercial catalysts and assess potential impact on investment theses.
- Synthesize scientific, clinical, and financial insights into clear, actionable investment recommendations.
- Contribute to a long‑term, fundamentals‑driven investment strategy within the public equity markets.
Requirements:
- Buy‑side experience required, ideally within a biotech‑focused long-only, long/short, or crossover investment environment.
- Experience covering therapeutics‑focused biotech companies, with demonstrated depth in scientific and clinical diligence.
- Comfort evaluating both early‑stage clinical programs and commercial‑stage companies.
- Strong ability to interpret clinical data, understand regulatory pathways, and assess competitive moats.
- Proficient financial modeling skills and familiarity with biotech valuation frameworks.
- Intellectual curiosity, humility, and the ability to form independent, evidence‑based views.
- Deep expertise in one or more therapeutic areas or modalities (e.g., gene therapy, cell therapy, oncology, neurology, rare disease).
- Ability to challenge consensus and think independently.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
