Senior Commercial Underwriter - VA

Our client is a Small - Middle Market Commercial Insurance Carrier aiming to build out their Southeast territory. We are seeking experienced Territory Managers in North Carolina or South Carolina who are interested in growth and development!

Remote work available for candidates residing in Virginia.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage a high-volume territory with significant underwriting authority, selecting and maintaining a profitable book of business.
  • Assess and price complex commercial accounts using detailed risk analysis, including financials, loss history, exposure data, and underwriting tools.
  • Build and strengthen agency relationships through proactive communication and strategic collaboration.
  • Educate agents on products, underwriting appetite, systems, and services to enhance their effectiveness and alignment with company goals.
  • Identify growth opportunities and address potential challenges within agency partnerships.
  • Partner with marketing representatives to ensure a seamless and high-quality customer experience.
  • Recommend appropriate coverage solutions and clearly communicate underwriting decisions to agents.
  • Participate in agency planning and review processes alongside marketing and branch leadership.
  • Mentor and support junior underwriters, offering guidance on complex cases and agency strategies.
  • Assist underwriting management by reviewing work, providing training, and sharing best practices.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in insurance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in commercial lines underwriting.
  • Professional insurance designations (e.g., CPCU) preferred.

Skills & Competencies:

  • Deep expertise in underwriting and risk evaluation.
  • Strong analytical and decision-making abilities.
  • Excellent customer service and relationship management skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and comfortable using digital tools and platforms.
  • Effective multitasking and time management skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication, including presentation capabilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
  • Demonstrated leadership and mentoring experience.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally; valid driver's license required.
