Role Summary


This position is responsible for leading physical LNG trading activities with a strong focus on the Asia-Pacific region, operating within a globally coordinated trading platform. It carries full accountability for optimising portfolio performance, managing market exposures, and generating financial returns through both asset-backed strategies and third-party trading.
The role requires close collaboration with global counterparts to enhance overall portfolio value and ensure alignment across regions.

Responsibilities


Commercial Leadership

Own and deliver the global LNG trading strategy, ensuring performance targets across profitability, cash flow, cost control, and risk are consistently met.
Drive value creation through active portfolio management and disciplined trading decisions across the LNG value chain.

Market Strategy & Execution

Design and implement trading strategies focused on physical LNG markets, particularly within Asia-Pacific benchmarks and pricing dynamics.
Work closely with counterparts in other regions to ensure a coordinated global approach to positioning and optimisation.
Lead trading execution to enhance value from equity volumes and capture opportunities arising from market dislocations.

Portfolio Oversight & Risk Control

Oversee price exposure across the global LNG portfolio and manage associated risks through structured trading approaches.
Maintain rigorous oversight of exposure reporting and ensure compliance with internal risk frameworks.
Clearly communicate market outlook, positioning, and risk mitigation strategies to relevant stakeholders.

Deal Structuring & Commercial Development

Partner with origination and optimisation teams to refine portfolio strategy and identify incremental value opportunities.
Structure and negotiate complex LNG transactions, both short-term and long-term.
Provide commercial insight on risk and contractual considerations across trading and origination activities.

Cross-Functional Integration

Foster strong collaboration across trading, shipping, operations, scheduling, finance, legal, and risk functions to maximise portfolio efficiency.
Ensure commercial strategy is effectively translated into operational execution, particularly in logistics and vessel optimisation.

Team Leadership & Capability Building

Develop and lead a high-performing trading team, promoting a strong commercial mindset and disciplined risk-taking culture.
Strengthen capabilities across trading, optimisation, and third-party business development.
Serve as a key internal authority on LNG market dynamics and trading practices.

Governance & Continuous Improvement

Ensure full compliance with internal policies, controls, and regulatory requirements.
Drive ongoing enhancements in systems, processes, and controls to support business growth and complexity.


Requirements

  • University degree or equivalent practical experience.
  • Significant experience in LNG trading with exposure to global portfolio management and risk (typically 8+ years).
  • Demonstrated leadership experience in building and managing teams within a dynamic trading environment.
  • Strong track record of delivering commercial value through trading, optimisation, and transaction structuring.
  • Deep knowledge of LNG market fundamentals across key regions including Asia and Europe.
  • Proven ability to develop and execute trading strategies across both physical and financial markets.
  • Advanced understanding of risk management, including exposure analysis and hedging techniques.
  • Hands-on experience negotiating LNG contracts across spot and term structures.
  • Established industry relationships and ability to generate new commercial opportunities.
  • Entrepreneurial mindset with a focus on value creation and optimisation.
  • Strong stakeholder engagement skills across global and cross-functional teams.
  • Comfortable using analytical tools and digital solutions to support trading and decision-making.
