A leading insurance organization undergoing a major digital transformation is seeking a Lead Data Scientist to join its Enterprise Data and Analytics Office (EDAO). This role offers a unique opportunity to work closely with the Chief Data & Analytics Officer and the Head of Data Science to shape the future of data-driven decision-making across the enterprise.
The EDAO is at the forefront of embedding a data-first culture, driving strategic initiatives through advanced analytics, and delivering measurable business value. The team is composed of data scientists, engineers, analysts, and product owners, all working together to enhance revenue growth, manage risk, and improve customer experience.
Role Overview
The Lead Data Scientist will serve as a technical leader, responsible for designing and deploying production-ready AI/ML solutions that support innovation across multiple business lines. This individual will lead a team of data scientists and collaborate with senior stakeholders to deliver high-impact, enterprise-scale models that influence financial performance and strategic direction.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and mentor a team of data scientists, fostering a culture of innovation and excellence.
- Partner with business stakeholders from ideation through deployment and post-launch support.
- Design and implement advanced machine learning and AI models to solve complex business problems.
- Collaborate with data engineers and MLOps teams to ensure scalable and reliable model deployment.
- Stay abreast of emerging trends in AI/ML and apply them to real-world use cases.
- Drive the development of data science standards, tools, and best practices.
- Present insights and model outcomes to executive leadership using compelling data visualizations.
- Ensure data quality and consistency through rigorous validation and control processes.
- Represent the organization at industry conferences and events.
Qualifications
- PhD with 6+ years, Master's with 8+ years, or Bachelor's with 10+ years of experience in Computer Science, Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or a related field.
- 7+ years of hands-on experience in machine learning model development.
- 2+ years of experience in the insurance industry; familiarity with Individual Markets or Direct-to-Consumer insurance is a strong plus.
- Deep expertise in NLP and Large Language Models (LLMs).
- Proficiency in Python and experience with distributed computing and data wrangling techniques.
- Strong understanding of a wide range of ML techniques (e.g., clustering, decision trees, neural networks) and their practical applications.
- Proven ability to lead teams and manage complex projects from concept to deployment.
- Excellent communication skills and the ability to influence stakeholders at all levels.
