Database Engineer for Investment Firm
The client, a leading global investment firm with a strong focus on technology and systematic strategies, is seeking a Database Engineer to join their expanding London office. The role sits within the Infrastructure Database team, responsible for the performance, scalability, and reliability of mission‑critical analytical data systems supporting quantitative research and trading.
Database Engineer Responsibilities
- Administer and optimise distributed ClickHouse clusters across production and research environments
- Implement replication, sharding, partitioning, and other distributed database architectures
- Monitor and enhance performance for high‑ingestion and low‑latency analytical workloads
- Support data ingestion pipelines, automation, and observability improvements
Key Requirements
- 5+ years of production database administration experience, including ClickHouse in distributed setups
- Strong expertise in query optimisation, performance tuning, and Linux system‑level diagnostics
- Experience with replication, sharding, Keeper/ZooKeeper, and high‑availability environments
- Familiarity with streaming ingestion frameworks (e.g., Kafka) and relational systems such as PostgreSQL
