Investment Banking Associate - FinTech
Location: New York, NY (Hybrid)
Level: Associate (2-5 years post‑MBA or equivalent)
Deals: Minimum 3+ closed transactions (sell‑side, buy‑side M&A and/or capital markets)
Employment Type: Full‑time
About the Role
We are seeking a high‑impact Investment Banking Associate to join our FinTech coverage team in New York. The ideal candidate brings a consistent track record executing complex transactions and leading day‑to‑day deal workstreams across M&A, equity, and/or debt. You'll partner closely with VPs and MDs to originate and execute mandates across verticals such as payments, embedded finance, capital markets infrastructure, wealthtech, insurtech, and vertical SaaS with fintech monetization.
What You'll Do
- Own day‑to‑day M&A workstreams: process management, buyer/sponsor outreach coordination, Q&A, VDR oversight, diligence tracking, and closing checklists.
- Lead valuation work (comps, precedent transactions, DCF, LBO sensitivity), cap table / waterfalls, and synergy cases.
- Build and audit transaction models (merger, accretion/dilution, LBO, unit economics, cohort‑based revenue build for FinTech).
- Draft and refine client materials (CIMs, management presentations, Board materials, teasers, pitchbooks).
- Serve as a client day‑to‑day contact during live deals; prepare agendas, materials, and follow‑ups.
- Conduct market and competitive intelligence (product, pricing, regulatory, and monetization trends) across FinTech sub‑sectors.
- Support origination: develop target lists, white‑space analyses, and idea generation for coverage priorities.
- Manage and mentor analysts; establish modeling standards, presentation quality, and work‑product review protocols.
- Coordinate with legal, tax, accounting, and technical advisors; anticipate workstream risks and mitigation plans.
- Uphold compliance, documentation, data integrity, and internal approval standards.
What You've Done
- 3+ closed transactions (sell‑side/buy‑side M&A and/or ECM/DCM); clear articulation of your workstream ownership.
- 2-5 years of post‑MBA or equivalent investment banking experience (exceptional pre‑MBA associates considered).
- Deep FinTech exposure (e.g., payments, issuer/acquirer processors, wallets, BaaS, embedded finance, alt lending, wealthtech, insurtech, regtech, capital markets/crypto infrastructure).
- Advanced financial modeling and valuation skills; ability to build from scratch and defend assumptions.
- Demonstrated process leadership: managing analysts, meeting tight timelines, and running multiple live workstreams.
- Exceptional communication (client‑ready writing and presentation) and attention to detail.
