Position Summary:

My client, a mission-driven nonprofit health system, is seeking an Associate Medicaid Actuary to support the financial and strategic operations of its Medicaid programs. This role will play a key part in actuarial modeling, rate development, and program evaluation to ensure the sustainability and effectiveness of services provided to vulnerable populations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development and analysis of Medicaid capitation rates, risk adjustment methodologies, and financial forecasts.
  • Analyze claims, enrollment, and utilization data to identify trends and support strategic decision-making.
  • Collaborate with internal teams and external stakeholders to evaluate the impact of regulatory changes and program innovations.
  • Prepare actuarial reports and documentation for state agencies, CMS, and internal leadership.
  • Contribute to the design and evaluation of value-based payment models and population health initiatives.
  • Maintain and enhance actuarial models and tools to support ongoing Medicaid program management.
  • Participate in audits, rate negotiations, and compliance reviews as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of actuarial experience, ideally within Medicaid or public health insurance programs.
  • Progress toward ASA designation (Associate of the Society of Actuaries) preferred.
  • Proficiency in Excel, SQL, and actuarial modeling software (e.g., SAS, R, Python).
  • Familiarity with Medicaid managed care, state rate-setting processes, and CMS guidelines.
  • Strong analytical, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Alignment with the mission and values of nonprofit healthcare.

Preferred Attributes:

  • Experience working with state Medicaid agencies or managed care organizations.
  • Understanding of social determinants of health and equity-focused actuarial work.
  • Ability to communicate complex data insights to non-technical audiences.
