Trade Analyst - Natural Gas
This role provides daily support to Natural Gas trading and origination teams, with a focus on operational excellence and analytical insight. The position involves close collaboration with traders, originators, and other stakeholders, and requires a strong grasp of North American energy markets and trading operations.
Key Qualifications
- 3+ years of experience in middle office roles supporting physical and financial Natural Gas or Power trading in North America.
- In-depth knowledge of natural gas and/or power infrastructure and market dynamics, including pipelines, storage, trading hubs, ISOs, and transmission systems.
- Strong understanding of transaction types and associated risk and valuation methodologies.
- Proficient in analyzing P&L across large datasets, including trade volumes, forward curves, and settlements.
- Solid foundation in financial valuation concepts such as mark-to-market, realized/unrealized P&L, and discounting.
- Proven experience working directly with front office and senior leadership in a trading environment.
- Hands-on experience with third-party ETRMs (preferably Endur/OpenLink), including implementation and maintenance.
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or finance-related field (e.g., Mathematics, Engineering, Economics, Finance, Accounting).
- Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently.
- High attention to detail and consistency in executing repeatable tasks.
- Ability to manage sensitive financial data with discretion.
Core Responsibilities
- Deliver daily P&L, valuation, position, and risk reporting for North American Natural Gas desks, including detailed analysis and attribution.
- Partner with traders, schedulers, and originators to support position management, trade booking, valuation models, and ad hoc analysis.
- Develop a deep understanding of portfolio flows and hedging strategies.
- Become a subject matter expert in proprietary and third-party ETRM systems used for trade capture and valuation.
- Ensure accuracy in reference data, trade bookings, and reporting processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams (e.g., Scheduling, Risk, Credit, Accounting, Treasury) to resolve issues and support new trade structures and instruments.
- Support structured transactions and recommend booking methodologies to ensure accurate valuation and risk reporting.
- Work with quantitative teams on option modeling and valuation inputs.
- Provide backup support for Power trading desks as needed.
- Coordinate with technology teams to enhance workflows, reduce risk, and improve operational efficiency.
- Assist in onboarding new desks, traders, and products.
- Align with global commodity teams to ensure consistency in trade modeling and valuation practices.
