Storage Engineer
A global technology focused investment organisation is seeking an engineer to join its core infrastructure group. This team works across multiple technical domains including Windows, Linux and UNIX, networking and database platforms. The successful candidate will design and deliver shared storage solutions that support a wide range of internal systems. This includes file sharing services, network storage, and high performance storage environments used by clustered databases. The role also involves choosing vendor technologies, maintaining vendor relationships, and supporting the organisation's operational resilience and continuity planning. Alongside design responsibilities, the position remains hands on and technical.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and implement shared storage services used by various internal teams. This includes Windows based file sharing, NFS environments, and storage platforms that support high performance database clusters.
- Evaluate storage technologies, manage vendor relationships, and participate in product selection and solution design.
- Develop and maintain enterprise backup and data recovery strategies that align with broader continuity objectives.
- Work collaboratively with specialists across operating systems, networking and database engineering to deliver integrated storage solutions.
- Contribute storage and backup expertise to the organisation's continuity and disaster recovery planning.
- Act as a hands on engineer for system builds, performance tuning, lifecycle maintenance and operational support.
- Produce clear documentation for designs, operational procedures and project activities.
Required Experience and Skills
- A minimum of five years of experience in storage engineering or storage focused systems administration within enterprise environments.
- A proven history of delivering, tuning and supporting high performance production storage solutions.
- Strong working knowledge of storage protocols including SMB, NFS and S3 compatible technologies.
- Solid understanding of Linux and Windows operating systems and how they interact with storage systems.
- Demonstrated experience developing and implementing backup strategies and data protection processes.
- Strong collaboration skills with the ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary infrastructure teams.
- Excellent communication abilities and a track record of producing high quality documentation.
