New Business Underwriting Manager
This is a player-coach role-ideal for someone who enjoys underwriting complex risks while leading a team and building strong broker relationships.
This role will be hybrid in Phoenix, AZ.
What You'll Do:
- Underwrite and manage large, complex new business accounts while overseeing day-to-day team activity
- Lead and develop a team of underwriters, driving consistency and performance
- Partner closely with brokers to grow new business and strengthen key relationships
- Set and refine underwriting guidelines to balance growth, risk, and profitability
- Deliver thoughtful, creative underwriting solutions to win and retain business
- Review escalated decisions and ensure alignment with overall underwriting strategy
What You Bring:
- P&C underwriting experience
- Proven ability to act as a player-coach (hands-on underwriting + leadership)
- Strong track record of broker engagement and new business production
- Solid underwriting judgment with a risk-aware, growth-oriented mindset
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
- Comfortable in a fast-paced, high-growth environment
- Active P&C license (AZ preferred)
