Salary: $160,000 - $210,000
Position Overview
Our client is seeking a dynamic and experienced Assistant Vice President (AVP) to join their Middle Market Underwriting team focused on the Private Equity sector. This role is ideal for a strategic thinker with deep underwriting expertise and a strong understanding of the unique risks and opportunities within private equity-backed businesses.
The AVP will play a critical role in driving profitable growth, managing complex accounts, and building strong broker and client relationships. This is a high-impact position offering the opportunity to shape underwriting strategy and contribute to the continued success of a specialized and growing portfolio.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead underwriting efforts for middle market accounts within the Private Equity space, ensuring alignment with risk appetite and profitability goals.
- Evaluate and price complex risks across various industries, with a focus on private equity-owned or sponsored entities.
- Collaborate with internal stakeholders including actuarial, legal, claims, and finance to structure innovative insurance solutions.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with brokers, clients, and private equity firms to drive new business and retention.
- Monitor market trends and competitor activity to inform underwriting strategy and product development.
- Mentor and support junior underwriters, fostering a culture of excellence and continuous learning.
- Contribute to strategic initiatives, including portfolio management, process improvement, and digital transformation.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 7-10 years of commercial underwriting experience, with a strong preference for middle market and private equity exposure.
- Proven track record of underwriting profitability and portfolio management.
- Deep understanding of private equity structures, deal flow, and risk dynamics.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building abilities.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree or professional designations (e.g., CPCU, ARM) preferred.
