Actuarial Valuation

A leading life insurance organization is seeking an actuarial valuation professional with strong technology and data skills to join its Valuation team. This role supports technology-driven valuation and financial reporting processes across life insurance operations and affiliated captive reinsurance entities. The position blends traditional valuation work (STAT and Tax) with modern cloud-based process ownership-focused on automation, control, and scalable reporting.

What this role does

The person in this role will help maintain and enhance cloud-based actuarial processes used to produce, analyze, and review reserves and related financial information. The work includes improving valuation procedures, recommending process solutions that impact results, and partnering with stakeholders across modeling, finance, audit, and IT.

Key responsibilities

Valuation process maintenance (cloud-based)

  • Maintain controlled valuation processes implemented in the cloud, leveraging Azure and Databricks for monthly reporting.
  • Support actuarial data pipelines through data transformation and ongoing adjustments to ensure consistent monthly execution.
  • Implement backend enhancements and optimizations to improve flexibility, automation, and reliability.
  • Participate in code reviews and manage deployments to production using version control tools (e.g., Git).

Research & implementation

  • Advise and support initiatives tied to accounting, regulatory, and technology changes (e.g., new valuation systems, guidelines, methods, and platform updates).
  • Collaborate with internal and external partners to ensure smooth valuation operations and downstream reporting integration.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to automate and streamline workflows and help implement improvements.

Valuation reporting & close support

  • Support monthly reserve production under Statutory and Tax requirements and actuarial principles.
  • Compile information for quarterly and annual statement schedules/exhibits and support year-end materials for state DOI submissions (including Maryland and New York).
  • Help ensure close deadlines are met by monitoring checklists, understanding dependencies, and coordinating within the team.
  • Support reinsurance reporting and settlements across captive and traditional reinsurance arrangements, including surplus relief solutions.

Qualifications

Education & credentials

  • Bachelor's degree in Actuarial Science, Information Systems, Computer Science, or a related field.
  • ASA or near ASA (approximately 5 exams).

Experience

  • 5+ years of actuarial experience (life insurance and/or valuation strongly preferred).
  • 3+ years working in data/technology environments, including querying and database work (SQL/NoSQL).
  • 1+ year of professional programming experience using Python (required) and/or R/Spark, including Git-based version control.
  • Experience implementing and maintaining modern data solutions within cloud architecture (AWS or Azure).

Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented approach.
  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong technical toolkit: Excel + SQL + Python, including integration with cloud-based workflows.
  • Clear communication skills for technical audiences with varying actuarial backgrounds.
  • Self-motivated, organized, and comfortable working in a deadline-driven close cycle.

Why this opportunity

This role is ideal for an actuarial professional who enjoys modernizing valuation work-owning processes in the cloud, improving controls and automation, and partnering cross-functionally to strengthen reporting and operational efficiency.
