About the Opportunity
Our client is a growing employee benefits consulting organization seeking a Vice President of Pharmacy Consulting to lead and expand its pharmacy consulting practice. This individual will serve as a strategic advisor to employers, helping them navigate the evolving pharmacy benefits landscape while driving clinical and financial outcomes. The VP will work closely with clients, consultants, PBMs, carriers, and vendor partners to develop innovative pharmacy strategies and deliver measurable value.
This is a highly visible leadership role offering the opportunity to influence pharmacy benefit strategy across a diverse client base while helping shape the future direction of the practice.
Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the lead pharmacy expert and trusted advisor for employer clients ranging from mid-market to large national accounts.
- Develop and oversee comprehensive pharmacy benefit strategies focused on cost containment, trend management, clinical effectiveness, and member experience.
- Analyze pharmacy utilization, claims data, rebate arrangements, contract performance, and financial metrics to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Provide strategic guidance on PBM procurement, contract negotiations, audits, RFPs, renewals, and vendor evaluations.
- Partner with benefits consultants, producers, and account teams to support business development efforts and client retention initiatives.
- Present pharmacy insights, market trends, and strategic recommendations to C-suite executives, HR leaders, and benefits committees.
- Monitor emerging developments in specialty pharmacy, biosimilars, GLP-1s, clinical programs, transparent PBM models, and pharmaceutical market trends.
- Lead client-facing meetings and deliver executive-level reporting and recommendations.
- Support the development of thought leadership content, white papers, webinars, and industry presentations.
- Mentor and develop junior pharmacy consultants and analysts as the practice continues to grow.
- Collaborate with internal leadership to identify opportunities for practice expansion and service innovation.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degree (PharmD, MBA, MPH, or related field) preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in pharmacy consulting, PBM consulting, employee benefits consulting, managed care, or a related healthcare environment.
- Deep understanding of pharmacy benefit management, specialty pharmacy, rebate structures, formulary management, and employer-sponsored health plans.
- Experience advising self-funded employers on pharmacy benefit strategy.
- Strong knowledge of PBM contract evaluation, procurement processes, and market dynamics.
- Demonstrated ability to manage executive-level client relationships and serve as a strategic business advisor.
- Proven experience leading complex projects and presenting recommendations to senior stakeholders.
- Strong analytical, financial, and consultative problem-solving skills.
- Excellent communication and presentation abilities.
Preferred Background
- Pharmacy consulting experience within a brokerage, consulting firm, PBM, healthcare analytics organization, or employer health strategy practice.
- Experience supporting large employers, public sector organizations, unions, or multi-employer plans.
- Established relationships within the PBM, pharmacy, and healthcare ecosystem.
- Previous leadership or team management experience.
