VP Data Engineer
A leading Markets technology team is building a next-generation data platform supporting front-office trading, market data, pricing, risk, and analytics workflows. We are seeking a VP-level Data Engineer to help design and build scalable, real-time data infrastructure used across trading and quantitative teams.
This is a hands-on engineering role focused on distributed systems, streaming architecture, APIs, and platform development rather than traditional analytics, BI, or reporting.
Responsibilities
- Design and develop scalable data platforms supporting front-office trading and market data use cases.
- Build real-time data pipelines handling high-volume market and reference data.
- Develop distributed services and APIs using modern engineering practices.
- Create data ingestion, normalization, enrichment, and distribution frameworks.
- Design event-driven architectures using streaming technologies.
- Partner with traders, quants, researchers, and technology stakeholders to deliver business-critical solutions.
- Improve platform reliability, resilience, monitoring, and operational tooling.
- Contribute to architecture decisions around future-state data storage technologies and platform evolution.
Required Skills
- 5+ years of software engineering experience.
- Strong Java engineering background.
- Experience building distributed systems and microservices.
- Strong understanding of event-driven architecture.
- Experience with Kafka and real-time streaming technologies.
- API development experience (REST/WebSocket).
- Strong software engineering fundamentals including testing, design patterns, and system design.
- Experience building scalable, production-grade platforms.
