Senior Utilities Equity Analyst
Our client is a fundamentally driven investment firm seeking a Senior Utilities Equity Analyst to join its investment team. The successful candidate will be responsible for covering North American regulated utilities, independent power producers, renewable energy companies, and broader energy transition opportunities. This individual will play a key role in idea generation, fundamental research, financial modeling, and portfolio construction, working closely with the PM and broader investment team.
This opportunity is ideal for either:
- A senior sell-side Utilities Equity Research Analyst looking to transition to the buy-side, or
- A buyside analyst with a strong track record investing across Utilities, Power, Renewables, or Energy Infrastructure.
Responsibilities
- Conduct deep fundamental research across regulated utilities, power generation, renewable energy, transmission, and energy infrastructure companies.
- Build and maintain detailed operating and valuation models, including earnings forecasts, regulatory asset base analysis, DCF, SOTP, and scenario analyses.
- Develop differentiated investment theses through company meetings, channel checks, industry research, and primary regulatory document analysis.
- Monitor industry catalysts including rate cases, regulatory rulings, FERC proceedings, commodity exposure, capacity markets, power pricing, and capital deployment initiatives.
- Present actionable long and short investment recommendations directly to the Portfolio Manager.
- Work closely with the investment team on position sizing, risk management, portfolio construction, and ongoing monitoring of existing investments.
- Produce high-conviction research around thematic opportunities including electrification, grid modernization, decarbonization, renewable integration, power demand growth, and AI-driven electricity consumption.
- Engage with management teams, industry experts, consultants, and sell-side analysts to enhance conviction and identify investment opportunities.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Accounting, or a related discipline.
- 5-15+ years of relevant experience in:
- Utilities Equity Research,
- Power & Utilities Buy-Side Investing
- Demonstrated expertise analyzing regulated utilities, power markets, renewable energy, transmission assets, or energy infrastructure businesses.
- Strong financial modeling and valuation skills.
- Proven ability to generate differentiated investment ideas and communicate investment recommendations effectively.
- Deep understanding of regulatory frameworks, utility economics, capital allocation, and sector-specific drivers.
- Experience interacting with company management teams and institutional investors is highly preferred.
