Job Title: Refined Products Trader

Location: Outside of Pittsburgh, PA

Position Summary:

The Refined Products Trader will be responsible for managing physical refined product positions, executing risk management strategies, and identifying optimization opportunities across the supply chain. This role will oversee the sourcing and procurement of products such as gasoline, diesel, and jet fuel, negotiate supply agreements, monitor inventory positions, and develop strategies to enhance profitability.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive margin improvement through physical product origination, supply optimization, contract structuring, and trade execution.
  • Develop and execute trading and supply strategies across Gulf Coast, Midwest, and other key regional markets.
  • Manage daily exposure and execute risk management strategies through electronic trading platforms and exchange-traded products.
  • Monitor inventory positions and collaborate with commercial teams to ensure supply balances align with customer demand.
  • Build and maintain relationships with refiners, suppliers, terminal operators, pipeline companies, brokers, and other key market participants.
  • Optimize blending programs involving products such as butane and naphtha.
  • Identify and capture arbitrage opportunities across regional markets and infrastructure networks.
  • Develop and implement trading strategies that enhance profitability and support business growth.
  • Coordinate hedge execution and inventory risk management activities to maintain balanced positions and ensure compliance with internal risk guidelines.
  • Analyze market fundamentals, price spreads, supply-demand balances, and emerging trends impacting refined products markets.

Requirements:

  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in refined products trading, supply, or related energy trading functions.
  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university.
  • Strong knowledge of physical refined products markets, logistics, and risk management practices.
  • Experience utilizing electronic trading platforms and relevant market exchanges
  • Demonstrated success developing and executing profitable trading strategies.
  • Understanding of pipeline, terminal, storage, and transportation economics.
  • Strong communication and relationship management abilities.
  • Advanced proficiency with Microsoft Office and market intelligence/trading systems such as CME, ICE, DTN, CQG, Refinitiv, Power BI, Tableau, or similar platforms.
  • Proven ability to make sound commercial decisions in a fast-paced trading environment.
  • Track record of generating value through trading performance, optimization initiatives, and strategic market positioning.
