Quant Researcher - Index Rebalance & Special Situations
Our client is a leading global hedge fund seeking a Quant Researcher to join a newly established Index Rebalance & Special Situations desk. This is an opportunity to join a highly collaborative team at an early stage, working alongside experienced Portfolio Managers, Traders, and Technologists to develop and scale systematic investment strategies across global equity markets.
The team focuses on identifying and monetising opportunities arising from index rebalances, corporate actions, benchmark changes, mergers, and other event-driven market dislocations. Researchers are encouraged to work closely with the market, contribute directly to strategy development, and have a meaningful impact on investment decisions from day one.
Responsibilities
- Research and develop systematic strategies focused on index rebalances, special situations, and equity market events.
- Generate and evaluate alpha signals using large-scale market, fundamental, and alternative datasets.
- Design, build, and maintain robust backtesting frameworks to assess strategy performance and risk.
- Analyse corporate actions, index methodology changes, reconstitution events, and market structure dynamics to identify trading opportunities.
- Work closely with Portfolio Managers and Traders to refine investment ideas, improve execution, and deploy capital effectively.
- Conduct statistical analysis, portfolio optimisation, and performance attribution to enhance existing strategies.
Requirements
- 3 + years experience in quantitative research, systematic equities, statistical arbitrage, event-driven investing, index trading, or related systematic strategies.
- Strong programming skills in Python and experience working with large datasets.
- Solid understanding of alpha research, signal generation, backtesting, and portfolio construction.
- Knowledge of equity markets, corporate actions, index methodologies, and event-driven trading opportunities.
- Strong academic background in Mathematics, Statistics, Computer Science, Physics, Engineering, or a related quantitative discipline.
- Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills with a research-driven mindset.
- Ability to thrive in a collaborative environment and communicate effectively with researchers, traders, and portfolio managers.
What's on Offer
- Join a leading global hedge fund with significant capital, world-class technology, and a proven track record of success.
- Become a key member of a new and growing team with substantial influence over strategy development.
- Work within a highly collaborative team where researchers, traders, and PMs work closely together to generate alpha.
- Access exceptional datasets, research tools, and technology infrastructure.
- Competitive compensation package with strong performance-related upside.
- Clear opportunities for long-term career progression and increased ownership over research and investment decisions.
This role is ideal for a researcher who wants direct exposure to markets, hands-on alpha generation, systematic strategy development, and the opportunity to help build a high-performing Index Rebalance & Special Situations platform from the ground up.
