Overview
We are seeking an entrepreneurial and commercially driven Polymer Trader to establish and grow the company's polymer trading business. This role presents a unique opportunity for an experienced trading professional to develop a new platform, expand market presence, and build a profitable trading portfolio across Asia and the Middle East.
The successful candidate will work closely with marketing, operations, analytics, and risk management teams to drive both asset-backed and third-party trading activities while taking increasing ownership of the business as it expands.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze polymer market fundamentals, supply-demand balances, pricing trends, and regional market developments to identify trading opportunities.
- Develop and execute the market entry and growth strategy for the polymer trading business.
- Establish and maintain relationships with producers, suppliers, customers, and trading counterparties across Asia and the Middle East.
- Originate, negotiate, and execute spot and term polymer transactions in international markets.
- Build and expand third-party trading activities alongside the company's asset-backed business.
- Develop strategic supply partnerships with key polymer producers and suppliers.
- Manage market exposure through hedging strategies and derivatives where appropriate.
- Take ownership of the polymer trading book, including P&L performance and risk management.
- Collaborate with analytics teams to enhance market intelligence, forecasting, and trading models.
- Work closely with operations and logistics teams to ensure seamless execution of physical trades.
- Monitor market developments and identify new commercial opportunities for business expansion.
- Partner with adjacent trading desks to capture cross-product and cross-market trading opportunities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Economics, Finance, Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Minimum 4-5 years of experience within the polymer industry, covering trading, marketing, origination, or commercial activities.
- Proven track record in originating and executing physical commodity transactions.
- Strong understanding of polymer market dynamics across Asia and/or the Middle East.
- Demonstrated commercial network and relationships with producers, consumers, traders, and distributors.
- Strong analytical, negotiation, and risk assessment capabilities.
- Entrepreneurial mindset with the ability to build and grow a business from strategy through execution.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and commodity trading/risk management systems (CTRM).
- Fluent in English; additional Asian language capabilities would be advantageous.
- Comfortable working in a dynamic, multicultural, and performance-driven trading environment.
