Our client is a dynamic and growing Managing General Agent (MGA) specializing in the Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines market. With a strong commitment to underwriting discipline and innovation, they offer tailored insurance solutions across a broad spectrum of risks. As part of their strategic expansion, they are seeking a seasoned Underwriting Director to lead and grow their Property and General Liability portfolio.
Position Summary:
The Underwriting Director will be responsible for overseeing underwriting strategy, portfolio performance, and product development within the Property and GL lines, all within the E&S space. This role requires deep technical expertise, market insight, and leadership capabilities. A strong background in reinsurance structuring and placement is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead underwriting strategy and execution for Property and General Liability products in the E&S market.
- Develop and refine underwriting guidelines, pricing models, and risk appetite.
- Collaborate with actuarial, claims, and distribution teams to optimize portfolio performance.
- Manage reinsurance relationships and placements, including treaty and facultative arrangements.
- Mentor and develop underwriting staff, fostering a culture of technical excellence and accountability.
- Monitor market trends, regulatory changes, and competitive landscape to inform strategic decisions.
- Represent the MGA in broker and carrier meetings, industry events, and client engagements.
Qualifications:
- 10+ years of underwriting experience in Property and General Liability, with a strong focus on E&S lines.
- Proven track record in reinsurance structuring and negotiations.
- Strong analytical and decision-making skills.
- Excellent communication and leadership abilities.
- Experience working within an MGA or carrier environment preferred.
- Bachelor's degree required; CPCU or other industry designations a plus.
