Lead Pricing Actuary | Property Treaty
Selby Jennings are supporting a tech-forward specialty (re)insurer in the appointment of a senior actuarial leader to take ownership of property treaty reinsurance pricing within a commercially focused portfolio.
This position sits at the intersection of pricing, underwriting, and portfolio strategy, with responsibility for how complex property treaty risks are assessed, priced, and managed. The role is deliberately hands-on, offering meaningful exposure to senior stakeholders and genuine accountability for material underwriting decisions.
The role is embedded within the underwriting environment, leading property treaty pricing activity and contributing directly to portfolio outcomes. It is well suited to someone who enjoys combining deep technical expertise with commercial judgement and wants to play a visible role in shaping pricing direction.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead property treaty reinsurance pricing across complex and material transactions
* Own deal-level pricing decisions, providing challenge and direction on risk selection and structure
* Develop, maintain, and enhance pricing models and methodologies to support underwriting decisions
* Work closely with underwriting and portfolio management to influence pricing strategy and portfolio optimisation
* Carry out model validation, recalibration, and governance activity, clearly communicating impacts to stakeholders
* Collaborate with wider technical teams to introduce new data sources, techniques, and innovations into pricing
* Support external discussions with brokers and clients where senior pricing input is required
* Identify opportunities for growth, remediation, or strategic adjustment within the property treaty portfolio
Role Requirements
* Qualified actuary (FIA or equivalent), or significant senior pricing actuarial experience
* Strong experience leading property treaty reinsurance pricing within the Lloyd's or company market
* Proven track record owning complex deal pricing and influencing underwriting outcomes
* Comfortable operating in a commercial environment with senior underwriting stakeholders
* Strong technical capability, including experience building and maintaining pricing models
* Advanced Excel skills, with experience in Python, SQL, or similar analytical tools
* Clear communicator, able to translate technical insight into commercial decision-making
