Role Overview
The Institutional Relationship Director serves as the primary point of contact for a set of institutional clients and limited partners, overseeing the full client experience and supporting long‑term retention and growth. This role manages day‑to‑day communication, anticipates client needs, and ensures consistent delivery of investment insights, operational support, and strategic relationship value. The position works closely with senior relationship leads, investment teams, marketing, product management, and operations to deepen engagement and strengthen the firm's standing as a trusted partner.
Main Responsibilities
- Serve as the central relationship lead for assigned institutional clients, providing proactive communication and a seamless, high‑quality service experience.
- Develop a detailed understanding of each client's investment structure, objectives, organizational dynamics, and strategic priorities.
- Lead regular review meetings and ensure the appropriate investment professionals are aligned and engaged.
- Maintain strategic account plans that track relationship status, consultant activity, expansion opportunities, and areas of risk.
- Communicate performance updates, market developments, and new investment ideas tailored to each client's specific context.
- Provide thoughtful guidance on potential allocations across the firm's platform and support discussions around portfolio positioning.
- Partner with sales leads to retain existing mandates, support additional contributions, and pursue new opportunities.
- Coordinate with investment, product, marketing, and operations teams to deliver accurate, timely, and relevant client materials and responses.
- Ensure new mandates are properly scoped, with clear alignment on customization, reporting, and servicing needs before onboarding.
- Keep internal teams informed of client goals, preferences, and sensitivities to ensure consistency across all interactions.
- Represent client perspectives internally to help shape enhancements to products, communications, and service delivery.
Key Qualifications
- 10+ years of experience in institutional client management, institutional sales, or marketing within asset management.
- Strong command of global markets, both public and private, with the ability to explain investment strategies, performance drivers, and risk considerations.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate complex investment concepts clearly and confidently to sophisticated audiences.
- Bachelor's degree required; advanced degrees or professional designations (CFA/CAIA) preferred.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to lead presentations and client discussions.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build trust, influence stakeholders, and navigate a cross‑functional environment.
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail and comfort managing multiple priorities.
- Collaborative and adaptable, with a proactive approach to solving problems and improving the client experience.
- Self‑motivated, able to operate independently, and effective in fast‑paced, high‑expectation environments.
- Willingness to travel approximately 10-20% as needed.
